Job purpose: Reporting in to our Head of Engineering & Facilities, you will take the lead and play a key part in managing ongoing and future engineering projects.
Working cross-functionally with internal, external stakeholders as well as third-party vendors; you will be responsible for the delivery of medium and large sized projects ensuring that they stay within the agreed project timeframes and budgets.
You must be able to build excellent working relationships quickly as well as being data driven to provide regular updates on multiple projects simultaneously, so the ability to compartmentalise, multi-task and manage your time efficiently is key in this role.
As well as project management, you will work alongside colleagues in the Engineering function to manage and recruit inhouse engineering maintenance teams (where applicable) as well as line manage Engineers that are assigned to you for specific projects.
About the Role: Hermes is the logistics and distribution partner to some of the largest and most fast-paced e-commerce and international retailers; because of this growth there are several current engineering projects ongoing and large engineering projects scheduled for 2021 and 2022 to ensure that our network capacity continues to increase alongside our parcel volumes.
The projects that you will manage will vary from replacing existing kit for larger equipment as well as ground up design and implementation in new sites.
The work is fast-paced and an eye for detail and potential project risk is necessary as our Engineering Implementation Manager.
Experience of negotiating delivery contracts and quotes from supplier would be an advantage.
You will have the rare opportunity to work cross-functionally with all parts of our business.
This position does have National travel and we are flexible on location but ideally you will be within reasonable travel time of Warrington, Rugby, the Midlands or Yorkshire as this is where the majority of projects will be implemented.
Experience/Qualifications: Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
Relevant industrial / logistics sector / engineering knowledge.
Project management experience and a history of delivering projects to agreed targets An ability to analyze opportunities focusing on priorities to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
Ability to balance operational requirements, delivery timescales and commercial benefit.
Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working autonomously yet with strong reporting and communication skills.
Highly motivated to achieve results.
A working knowledge of health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities: Managing a multi-million-pound engineering project portfolio and ensuring that all aspects of the works are completed to the correct quality, cost and timescales as required by the business.
To work with internal stakeholders within the business to deliver engineering and wider Capex projects.
Stakeholder will include IT, Operations, Health & Safety, Procurement, Facilities, Estates, Transport, HR, Finance etc.
To be able to clearly communicate and present engineering solutions and project updates including progress reporting, risk and cost analysis.
Liaising between internal colleagues and external suppliers/contractors on engineering/maintenance issues.
Ensuring that all engineering work is compliant with legislation and Hermes H&S policy Calculating engineering budget levels based on historical data and technical assessment.
Setting up of service contracts, supplier contracts with support of the Hermes Procurement team Working closely with Operations in agreeing and delivering solutions.
Conducting frequent reviews and project updates.
Ongoing regular communication and involvement with engineering and project management teams to plan work schedules and assess progress / performance.
Working closely with professional advisors for technical services and advice.
