Sharp Gaming is based in Manchester City Centre and stems from the gaming division at Degree 53.
The platform is still in development and we are recruiting talented individuals to help bring our vision to life.
We are now looking for a Head of Software Engineering, who will be responsible for all onshore and offshore software engineers, to successfully deliver a strategic platform and ensure continued growth and success.
This role will report into the CTOWhat will I be doing?Lead the execution of engineering best practices within Sharp Gaming, focussed on the continuous and measurable improvement of Software Engineering, Quality and Architecture aspects.
Support the DevOps culture ways of working, you will ensure teams have the necessary skills and capabilities to build, release and support all aspects of the Sharp Gaming Platform, and you will establish and own KPIs to ensure our value chain is optimised and continuously reviewed to ensure delays and impediments are kept to a minimal.
To operate at scale, you should ensure we have the right capabilities and skills amongst engineers to support and maintain healthy environments, enabling frequent release cadences through automation.
Provide process guidance to the product teams, ensure we are maximising throughput, whilst reducing defects between development stages, and reducing the number of defects leaks into production.
Support the operating model improvements, ensuring teams are correctly sized, resourced, and that process is established, measured and continuously improved.
Alongside HR, maintain a career / skills framework, that provides clear career paths and required skills to grow our people.
Work closely with other support and other technology functions, to ensure we have an effective 3rd line support who are proactively keeping the production systems healthy, identifying and resolving potential problem areas before they become problems.
Support Sharp Gaming objectives and help define the goals and strategies that all engineering teams should work towards.
Working closely with other functions within Sharp Gaming to define measures and improvements to our engineering capabilities.
Participate and encourage learning activities, promoting the learning culture from within, and identifying knowledge gaps that need to be plugged through internal or external training.
Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholdersReport back to senior management on engineering personnel, process improvements, impediments.

Excellent communication and collaborative skills is a must, and you will be proactive in engaging stakeholders and ensuring deadlines are met.
You will have experience in mentoring people working across different technical disciplines and be able to provide technical leadership and governance in ensuring design and implementation meets the business objectives.
Experience in running applications on virtualised infrastructure is essential, as well as adapting services to containers using popular orchestration technologies.
You should have excellent working knowledge of both Linux (CentOS) and Windows 2016 Servers, and have good knowledge of networking protocols.
You will have some understanding of how DNS, NTP and Active Directory works.
Ideally, you will have a programming background, with a good understanding of coding practices, patterns and styles.
You should have a good understanding of object orientated programming, and ideally functional programming.
Experience of using dotnet, typescript is beneficial.
You will have a strong background in working on both monolithic and distributed systems using both synchronous and asynchronous based API’s.
You must have experience of working in an Agile environment, and be able to support working towards a Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery approach.
You should have experience with database systems such as MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server, as well as No SQL database solutions such as Redis or MongoDB.
