Millers was formed in 1856 and is one of the oldest music stores in the UK. Since being acquired in 2012 it has grown to form a larger retail group including a sister music store in Norwich, Cookes Pianos, and an Outdoor business in Open Air on Green Street. This is now set to expand further online and with more showrooms.

An opportunity has opened up to be part of our Marketing team at a pivotal time, helping to develop our digital channels and supporting an all new music retail concept in the UK's traditional music market. Whilst Retail is obviously challenging right now, musical instruments have seen a resurgence and we have amazing products from some of the world's best manufacturers. We have quickly evolved our business model to be ready for a post-COVID retail environment and now need the digital channels to support our growth ambitions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic individual with a passion for creating inspiring, engaging written content and emails that deliver commercial results. Working in the music industry we are afforded the most incredible opportunities, we need somebody who can work with our teams and suppliers to identify these and turn them into amazing content that our customers will love. Our products can genuinely change the lives of those who play them and those around them, we need to better communicate the benefits of music, our enthusiasm, and the service we offer to our customers with website content.

Your job will be to build amazing content for our product pages, helpful materials and stories for our blog to inspire our customers, with tailored emails to support their individual musical journey. Whoever is successful will gain great experience both of the music industry but also the wider ecommerce and digital marketing world, working with some of the leading providers and agencies in the UK you will have the chance to develop your own skills and knowledge.

Digital Marketing Exec

Reports to: Managing Director

Location: Barnwell Drive, Cambridge / Remote

Hours/Type: Full time

Purpose of role:

  • Conceive, create and deliver content initiatives to increase rankings on SERP, increasing brand awareness, generating leads, and sales
  • Manage email campaigns and automations, supporting our sales processes and overall marketing strategy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating and maintaining high quality, unique blog content by researching and interviewing internally and externally to increase search rankings
  • Writing unique product and category content, optimising to maximise natural search rankings
  • Building and maintaining pre and post-sale automated emails as well as monthly email newsletters to support our sales processes
  • Working with Social Media Exec and Managing Director to form overall marketing plan including specific objectives for SEO and email
  • Working with Customer Experience Team to identify potential influencers who can support our content strategy, contributing to content or providing backlinks
  • Regularly monitoring and reporting on all aspects of SEO and email performance
  • Supporting the production of physical marketing materials and digital assets.
  • Researching and discovering new, relevant keywords to target and/or opportunities increase sales of products or services
  • Attending company-wide and marketing events as required

Education & Qualification:

  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent by experience), preferably in marketing, print journalism, English or publishing.

Knowledge & Experience


  • Writing and maintaining website product information and/or content
  • Analysing data from various sources and presenting results


  • Previous B2C marketing experience
  • Basic HTML/CSS coding and concepts
  • Working knowledge of musical instruments
  • Knowledge of Gmail and other Google productivity apps


  • Excellent written skills
  • Ability to interview and interpret technical information from multiple sources
  • Excellent communication (written and oral)
  • Excellent organisation, working to deadlines, prioritising workload according to business requirements and the ability to react quickly to changing demands.
  • Knowledge of keyword research tools such as Ahrefs, SEM Rush, and Google Trends.
  • Ability to extract, manipulate and analyse large volumes of data on a regular basis
  • Analysing performance using tools such as Google Analytics.

Compensation and details of Employment

  • Basic salary commensurate with skills and experience in the range of £19,500-24,000 plus company bonus scheme
  • Flexible and remote working options (WFH until 2021)
  • Hours 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work (for events)
  • 28 days holiday a year including Bank Holidays
  • Some travel may be required on occasion to company showrooms and suppliers
