Colchester Institute is a provider of high-quality vocational learning in Further and Higher

Education throughout north Essex. We offer full and part-time courses across a wide range of

Vocational learning is an integral part of all of our courses, and Colchester Institute is

regionally recognised for its art and design facilities and has a reputation for producing strong

and well-equipped alumni students, and across the college 89% of our degree students are in

work or further study within six months of graduating.

In the UCC School of Art, we currently have four degree level pathways in, Visual Arts,

Photography, Fashion and Printed Textiles and Fine Art. Each course has its own dedicated

studio space, as well as being served by a comprehensive range of workshops and facilities,

including Mac computer suites, Moving image studios, Printmaking, Ceramics, Fashion and

Textiles, Wood/Metal/Plastics and Photography studios and darkrooms.

The successful candidate will plan, prepare and deliver modules in academic or professional

development and contextual studies to fashion and textiles students at degree level through a

series of lectures, seminars, group and individual tutorials.

Job Title: Hourly-Paid Teacher in Level 6 Dissertation for

Fashion and Printed Textiles

Salary: £31.6112 - £34.5271 per hour of teaching

Purpose Statement:
The successful candidate will plan, prepare and deliver modules Fashion and

Printed Textiles at degree level through a series of lectures, seminars, group and

individual tutorials.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
1 To prepare appropriate teaching material.

2 To carry out teaching appropriate to the requirements of individual courses and

students.

3 To conduct teaching/learning activities appropriate to the needs of individual

students, courses and the curriculum, keeping attendance records and maintaining

student discipline.

4 To set, mark and record relevant coursework and assessments.

5 To track and monitor learner progress throughout the programme, provide

feedback to managers, learners and employers.

6 To counsel and guide students in respect of their academic progress and, as

appropriate, their pastoral concerns and needs and making referrals to specialist

services as appropriate; contributing to student reports and references as required.

7 To contribute to the work of subject and programme teams, committees and boards,

as appropriate.

8 To attend, as required, up to 3 meetings a year as specified by the Director of Faculty.

They may include parents’ evenings, course review meetings and curriculum

development meetings.

9 To, at all times, maintain high expectations of learner’s work, commitment, and

behaviour, acting to ensure the highest of standards are met.

10 To continuously evaluate and improve the quality of learning and teaching within your

sessions utilising and engaging with the college’s development and observation

programmes.

11 To refer to the appropriate full-time lecturer (Course Tutor, Personal Tutor,

Programme Manager) student progress as required and any incident or behaviour

which may require further investigation, support or counselling.

12 To complete all associated administrative paperwork and duties accurately and

timely to meet quality, funding and audit standards

13 To contribute to the development of curricula and specialist facilities within the area.

14 To actively promote the College’s programmes, attend open evenings, parents’

evenings, careers events, school visits and similar marketing and publicity activities.

15 To maintain and extend links with external organisations as appropriate.

16 To develop and update personal professional expertise in the relevant subject areas.

17 Adhere to and promote the College’s Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity and Health

& Safety policies and practices.

18 To undertake any other associated duties determined by the college.
