The English Spirit Distillery are looking for a talented person to join our team immediately as a full time Marketing Manager. This is a hands on, wide ranging role, focusing on developing our brand and driving awareness across multiple channels. This is a unique opportunity to join our business at a very exciting time, and help us to drive one of the UK’s newest food and drink trends.

About English Spirit

Founded in 2011 by Dr John Walters, a former biochemist and passionate cook, we consider ourselves to be England’s original small batch distillers. We believe that good food & drink are some of life’s greatest pleasures: and so our mission is to make the best spirits money can buy, using great ingredients and ten years of distilling experience to create spirits of a brand new quality standard. From our award winning independent distillery at Great Yeldham Hall in Essex, we produce the UK's widest variety of spirits & liqueurs distilled under one roof: including vodkas, gins, rums, brandies, single malts, liqueurs and much more. Our aim is to showcase the best flavours England has to offer, by taking fresh ingredients and distilling their essence into something new and amazing.

Since 2011, we’ve been at the forefront of spirit innovation; including being the first to distil rum in the UK. One of our specialties is distilling our spirits from scratch, which is exceedingly rare but worth it in our pursuit of quality: we firmly believe we make the best spirits & liqueurs in the UK. We’re even passionate about using spirits as cooking ingredients, which may sound crazy at first; but we believe that’s how all the best ideas start out.

Our next exciting project is the construction of our brand new distillery, restaurant and visitor centre at Treguddick Manor in Cornwall, opening in May 2021. As well as bringing our distilling expertise to the South West, we will be cooking high quality dishes with local ingredients and our premium spirits, and inviting local chefs to come and do the same. The centre will be used for retail, tours, education, and even to grow our own ingredients. We want to build a ‘cathedral to flavour’: a true foodie hotspot for tourists and locals alike. This wonderful space will bring to life our brand’s core belief that good food & drink are truly some of life’s greatest pleasures.

About The Role

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for driving brand awareness through our online shop, and eventually, for helping to drive sales at our new distillery & visitor centre opening in May 2021, making this a ‘bricks & clicks’ role. You will be our ‘chief storyteller’ and responsible for all marketing endeavours and written communications across our brand estate. You will become an expert and authority on all the fine details of our brand’s history, values, and production process. Whether it’s our booze or our background, we have plenty to share that we’re confident people will enjoy: and our Marketing Manager will be in charge of crafting this into branding and messaging that truly captivates consumers. This will be a key role in our team, especially for bringing our new distillery in Cornwall to life. Working closely with the General Manager and Creative Executive, you will help us to set creative direction and translate our unique proposition into inspirational content that shows our brand at it’s natural best.

Key Responsibilities

  • MARKETING - chiefly: planning, execution and management of social media channels; email newsletters; customer segmentation. ‘Offline’ marketing relating to campaigns, promotions & events once our new visitor centre is open
  • COPYWRITING - all aspects of ‘storytelling’ including brand messaging, social media posts, blogs, articles, storyboards for visitor centre, tone of voice
  • E-COMMERCE - responsibility for driving sales through our online shop and website, including via paid channels (Google & Facebook ads), SEO, promotions, content management

Other responsibilities may include: hosting tours at new visitor centre, helping organise novel & exciting distillery events, assisting with set up of new CRM/loyalty system, PR management, cultivating relationships with local & online influencers, TOV, brand direction and strategy, basic photo & video capture, and more.

You will work closely with our Creative Executive, whose responsibilities will cover graphic design, photography, and other visual elements. They will support you by creating visual content, just as you will support them with copywriting and any other required areas.

Skills & Competencies/What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrable experience in digital marketing, including PPC, SEO, social media management
  • Demonstrable experience in copywriting
  • Demonstrable experience in e-commerce and working to revenue targets
  • Demonstrable experience with relevant e-commerce platforms, including Google Ads, Google Analytics
  • Ability to use other relevant platforms, including social media content management, email management
  • Working to agreed e-commerce revenue targets
  • Commercial acumen
  • Excellent grasp of English language and flair for creative writing
  • Good communication skills, both with customers and VIPs
  • Genuine passion for customer service and making people happy
  • Ability to work as part of a team, including close work with an in house creative executive
  • Meeting deadlines while managing multiple projects at one time
  • Willingness to host tours in Cornwall
  • Willingness to learn on the job
  • Frequent ‘thinking outside the box’
  • Passion for good food and drink
  • Driving licence is essential
  • A degree or qualification in marketing preferred but not essential
  • Previous experience with food, drink or retail is preferred but not essential
  • Willing to join our team full time: no agencies please

Other details

  • Regular working hours Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (40hrs per week). Possibility that occasional evenings and weekends required once visitor centre at Treguddick is open in May 2021
  • Work location to be split equally between Treguddick Manor (PL15 7JN) and working from home.
