This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, innovative, friendly and supportive team providing primary care, at HMP Downview. Working in custodial environments is uniquely rewarding where you will have an opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge. We are looking for an RN (Adult) preferable with experience Community Nursing, Urgent/Emergency Care or Practice Nursing, with evidence of ongoing professional development ideally having a NMP qualification. Experience in Offender Care would be an advantage although not essential as support will be given to develop these specific skills.

The post holder has direct clinical and Leadership responsibility for the effective operation of the primary care services within the HMP Downview. Together with the Head of Healthcare you will be responsible for ensuring the most effective and best use of the primary care staff, clinical and non-clinical resources is undertaken.

The candidate will provide expert clinical nursing knowledge and leadership to nursing other members of the supporting the delivery of patient care and the supervision, mentorship and professional development of staff. It will be expected that you will have strong leadership, communication and decision making skills and an understanding and commitment to the development of nursing within Primary Care. The post-holder will be accountable for the provision of effective professional nursing leadership and pro-active resource management for the service.

As an experienced Registered nurse with significant post reg experience and qualifications, the post-holder will be expected to create an environment of continuous quality improvement and professional development, ensuring that the delivery of care is regularly reviewed and that service developments are implemented when necessary.

The post-holder will also be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Matron’s Charter and hence will promote best practice in the prevention of infection, through ensuring a clean and safe environment and that clinical practices are in accordance with Trust policy, and best practice guidelines to minimise the risk of infection.

Responsibilities will also include contributing to the delivery of the Health and Justice Performance Indicators, Health Improvement Plan, CQC Preparation Plans and relevant key strategic activities and developments. This will be supported by high quality communications with all groups of staff.
