ELAM is a world-class 16-19 Academy which opened in September 2014. ELAM offers young people everything that they will need to lead successful lives within the music, games design and film and television sectors.

Our vision is to better the creative industries of tomorrow. We believe this can be achieved by increasing the access routes into those industries for talented young people. The creative industries in the UK continue to do well and are currently worth £92 Billion to the economy, while growing at more than double the speed of the wider economy. However, unlike many other industries, it is not always clear how to get into these jobs and therefore there is often lack of diversity within these sectors. Increasing the access routes to everyone will therefore increase the quality of talent and the continued growth of the sector long term.

ELAM seeks to achieve this by providing industry standard courses for our trainees in Music, Games Design and Film and Television. We have partnered with sector leading organisations including YouTube, Universal Music and Creative Assembly to devise a curriculum that will develop the future leaders of these sectors by meeting the relevant knowledge, skills and cultural demands. In addition, all trainees at ELAM undertake a study of Maths and English as we identified the skills provided by these subjects, such as written and oral communication, problem solving, data analysis and research are the key traits of the current leaders of these fields.

We had our first full Ofsted inspection in May 2017 and received a grading of Outstanding in every category and while this is a huge achievement and something that we are immensely proud of, we are also still a long way from meeting our vision. There is still a lot of work to do and as a school we are restless in the pursuit of achieving this.

Job Overview

The post holder will be responsible for the development and implementation of ELAM’s marketing, trainee recruitment and communication strategies. You will provide advice and guidance on recruitment issues to the SLT, manage the gathering and use of data to inform ELAM’s strategies, and contribute to decision-making concerning ELAM’s recruitment plan and reputation. You will promote and raise awareness of ELAM with key external interest groups by organising on-site recruitment events and represent ELAM at off site events. The successful applicant will also work administratively with the leads of alumni and industry relations leads.

Major Recruitment Responsibilities:

  • Enhance existing and develop new relationships with schools and colleges and other organisations where appropriate potential trainees are to be found, liaising with course leaders to prepare for and attend events.
  • Develop, organise and lead on a range of on-site recruitment events, including Open Days, Assessment Evenings, Cultivation Events, Taster Day etc.
  • Present the Music, Games and Film Programmes at appropriate off-site events, and to visitors, applicants and families on-site.
  • Maintain ELAM’s information on student recruitment and produce reports for the SLT to inform marketing strategies.
  • Take responsibility for cultivation events to ensure those who have been made an offer of a place remain engaged with ELAM and more likely to accept the place.
  • Take a lead role in implementing marketing towards ELAM’s trainee recruitment strategy with emphasis on developing the use of web, emarketing and social media.
  • Systematically gather market and competitor intelligence and conduct market research, disseminating findings to SLT.

Major Marketing Responsibilties:

  • Lead role on managing the ELAM website. Posting all events and updating the news section of the website. Updating the ELAM sounds, Watch and E games sections of the website, keeping them up to date with new ELAM content.
  • Lead role on maintaining ELAM’s YouTube channel. Posting and promoting new content. Designing Idents for new videos, creating premieres and providing quality control.
  • Lead role in gathering stories for, collating and distributing the monthly newsletter.
  • Lead role on maintaining and updating ELAM’s Social Media channels, internally and at events.
  • Create promotional material for publication via print, web, social media etc

Additional Admin Responsibilities:

  • Administration for Masterclasses. Design of Masterclass Posters, gathering of content from masterclass for social media.
  • Liaise with Partnerships Lead on any additional Partnerships admin
  • Administrative duties and communication around industry related opportunities.
  • Administration of alumni information gathering and organisation of alumni events.
  • Coordinator of Digital School House Visits
  • Occasional cover for reception


  • Highly organised with excellent IT skills
  • Good telephone manner
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Ability to work under own initiative and an an integral part of ELAM’s team
  • Ability to relate well to 14-19 age group
  • Experience of music, film or games industry (desirable)
  • Background/qualifications in marketing (desirable)

Salary and how to apply

This is a permanent post, 8:30am to 4:30 pm, but with a number of evenings a year for school events, open evenings and assessment centres a year in advance of 6pm, to compensate for this the role carries 30 days annual leave, however you can receive time in lieu of up to an additional 10 days.

Salary: Up to £21,500

The start date for this role would be September 2020, with ELAM looking to engage with the appointed candidate prior to this.
