Responsibilities:
  • To provide a full billing and related support offering to the business
  • To maintain a high standard of service to the Firm's lawyers and clients ensuring that procedures are followed and accurate bills are produced.
  • To work as part of a team that is committed to providing a professional high quality support service at all times.
  • Provide support to the Partners and Fee earners with bill processing and other administrative tasks as required
  • Sharing knowledge and best practice to support our lawyers and secretaries in delivering often complex billing solutions.
  • Ensure that invoices to be submitted via e-billing are compliant with the client’s e-billing rules and requirements
  • Provide technical guidance on billing
  • Provide billing support to a number of offices supported by the London Accounting Team
  • Ensure compliance with foreign office tax and bill presentation for other offices supported by the London Team
  • Review and edit pre-bills in response to requests
  • Produce accurate bills in accordance with instructions
  • Prompt despatch of bills via email/post/e-billing
  • Attention to detail to ensure compliance with UK VAT and SAR's
  • Updating/inputting professional disbursement invoices for billing as and when required using the ChromeRiver invoice function
  • Process time transfers and time edits
  • Process time and disbursement write-offs in accordance with Firm policy
  • Client and matter housekeeping
  • Assist Management team with a move towards a structured billing cycle throughout month.
  • Assisting with client/matter rates management
  • Ability to handle a high volume of bills per month
  • Review and verify accuracy of billing and supporting documentation as required
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with Partners, Associates and Secretaries
  • Prompt resolution of billing queries
  • Create and distribute reports as required
  • Apply Firm billing policies at all times
  • Assist in providing training to junior members of the team
  • Liaise with Credit Control as required
  • To assist with special projects as required

  • Educated to A level standard to include Mathematics
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a senior billing position (ideally utilising the Aderant Practice Management System) in a multi-currency law firm environment.
  • Experience of e-billing using a multitude of different software platforms.
  • Possess effective communication skills coupled with the ability to work closely with Partners and senior staff in London and other overseas offices.
  • Be able to work unsupervised to strict deadlines, and have the ability to prioritise and manage workloads.
  • Display a sound knowledge of the Solicitors' Accounts Rules and knowledge of VAT for law firm billing.
  • A demonstrable working knowledge of other modules of the Aderant Practice Management System and good general computer skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and Document Management Systems
  • Personable, able and willing to work within and share knowledge to team members
  • Reliable and well organised
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Able to use own initiative with a can do attitude
